The Mason Jar Brews & Burgers

Greeted at the door when we arrived and directed to our place by a very nice and seemingly courteous young woman. The bar and restaurant looked to be clean and well-arranged. A cross between a sports bar and a local family hangout. The place was buzzing with customers. We ordered our drinks and placed our food orders.

Surprisingly enough, our drinks were indeed served in a Mason jar, unique and fitting. We had mixed drinks, well-made and refreshing. Perhaps quart-size specials or for iced tea!

Our meals arrived.

The fish and chips were nice, crispy, moist, with a nice texture and fried potatoes (French fries) with a dipping sauce. The horseradish dip left something to be desired for one of us; thankfully, there were other options. This dish was served piping hot. Not the greatest fish in the world by taste having been a frozen prepared fish stick. Fresh Catfish would have been a much better option for this dish.

The prime rib, although nicely baked, lacked the lustrous bark that comes from slow smoking; the fat had not been rendered correctly, and it lacked seasoning. The mashed potatoes with gouda cheese were an interesting combination, tasty if you like gouda, and the broccoli was perfectly steamed. Au jus was served on the side, which surprisingly was the best thing on the plate. This entire plate was cold, and the plate felt like it had been refrigerated.

The cheesecake dessert selection was a very nice ending to this meal again not fresh but a good presentation for a food service cheese cake.

Overall, great friendly people work here; you can tell most of them really enjoy what they are doing. It's a very busy place on the weekends, the wait isn't all that long. Bar service could use a bar back to help out and speed things along or a second well with an additonal bartender. Do not expect these bartenders to make any high class cocktails, most possess a good basic bar knowledge from working here for years, but true mixology is not their strong point. Some technical training for those "mixing" drinks from a professional mixologist might be helpful and push them over the top.
